What is Cubacel?
Cubacel is the Cuban company that provides cell phone service throughout the island. Although it does not cover the entire national territory, it covers all the main cities and tourist destinations in the country. In the image you can see (in green) the areas covered by the GSM network of Cubacel.
Cubacel offers cell phone services with national coverage in the GSM and TDMA standards. It operates at frequencies 850/900 MHZ in GSM technology and 800MHZ in TDMA. The 850MHZ (GSM) band has recently been activated by Cubacel and is available in Havana City, Varadero and the Coco and Guillermo Keys.
Thanks to international roaming agreements that Cubacel has with international partners, it is possible to use cell phones in Cuba from almost any part of Europe, America and part of Asia. In addition, it is possible to buy or rent a device when hiring cell phone services.

Mobile / cellular activation fees
You can activate your cell phone in Cuba or activate a line and rent a phone for the time spent in the country; or you can activate a permanent line if your stay on the island is prolonged, the prices are:
PERMANENT activation: 30.00 CUC + 10.00 CUC for the first recharge.
TEMPORARY Activation (Visitors): Activation income: 3.00 CUC daily
